Greeneville City Schools has announced that Dr. Tallye Gass will be the next principal of Hal Henard Elementary School. Dr. Gass will succeed Mrs. Janet Ricker, who is retiring after a long and dedicated career with Greeneville City Schools, including more than a decade as principal of Hal Henard Elementary School.
During her tenure, Mrs. Ricker led Hal Henard with an emphasis on student achievement, a strong school culture, and continuous improvement. Under her leadership, the school consistently achieved high academic success and received state-level recognition for its performance.
Dr. Gass brings 22 years of experience in education and a strong connection to the Greeneville community. A graduate of Greeneville City Schools, she earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from East Tennessee State University in 2002 and an Educational Specialist degree in Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University in 2010. She completed her Doctor of Education degree at East Tennessee State University in 2023.
Dr. Gass began her career in Hamblen County Schools before returning to Greeneville City Schools in 2011, where she taught at Greeneville Middle School. Since 2019, she has served as a Greeneville City Schools instructional specialist, providing district-wide support in elementary mathematics. In this role, she has worked closely with teachers and school leaders to strengthen instruction, build capacity, and support improved student outcomes across the district.
“Dr. Gass is a highly respected instructional leader who understands our district, our students, and our community,” said Director of Schools Steve Starnes. “Her work supporting elementary mathematics instruction across Greeneville City Schools has had a meaningful impact, and we are confident she will continue the strong tradition of excellence at Hal Henard while building positive relationships with the Hal Henard community.”
Dr. Gass shared her enthusiasm for the role, stating, “It is an honor to join the wonderful staff and families of Hal Henard. I’m looking forward to partnering with staff, families, and community to continue our strong tradition of academic success and supportive school culture.”
Dr. Gass and her husband, Kevin, have three children. Two are graduates of Greeneville City Schools, and the third student is slated to graduate in 2027.
