Greeneville City Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Daisy Shepard as the next Principal of Greeneville High School, effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Shepard has served as Assistant Principal at Greeneville High School since 2022 and brings more than 15 years of experience in education, including leadership roles in Washington County and Greeneville City.
Director of Schools Steve Starnes stated, “This well-deserved promotion reflects Dr. Shepard’s dedication, leadership, and deep commitment to Greeneville High School. Over the past four years, she has been instrumental in several key initiatives that have shaped GHS’s culture and success. Daisy has consistently demonstrated a passion for excellence, equity, and student achievement. As Principal, she will build on this strong foundation with a collaborative spirit and a deep understanding of the school’s values and high expectations. We are confident that Greeneville High School will continue to thrive under her leadership. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Shepard on her appointment.”
As Assistant Principal, Dr. Shepard helped lead efforts to strengthen instructional support, student services, and teacher collaboration at Greeneville High. Prior to joining GHS, she served as Assistant Principal at David Crockett High School from 2018–2022. Throughout her career, she has focused on fostering inclusive, student-centered school cultures and expanding equitable opportunities for all learners.
“I’m honored and humbled to serve as the next principal of Greeneville High School,” said Dr. Shepard. “This school and community are incredibly special to me. I’m excited to continue working with our outstanding staff, students, and families. I believe deeply in the values that define GHS—academic excellence, community pride, and a commitment to every learner. Together, we will build on that legacy.”
Dr. Shepard earned her Doctor of Education degree from Milligan University, an Ed.S. in Instructional Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University, and a Master’s in Special Education from Western Governors University. Her experience spans early childhood, special education, and secondary education.
Shepard is married to Brad Shepard and is the proud mother of three adult children: Brooke (27), Jackson (24), and Valerie (22), who bring tremendous joy to her life. She and Brad are excited to relocate to Greeneville and become active members of the community. Inspired by Greeneville’s strong tradition of connection, civic pride, and collective responsibility, Dr. Shepard looks forward to building meaningful relationships and contributing to the continued growth and success of the area. With a strong belief in the power of education, she is honored to serve a community where schools are central to daily life and neighbors work together to support, uplift, and empower every student and family.
Dr. Shepard will succeed Mrs. DeAnna Martin, who is retiring after serving as Principal of Greeneville High School since July 2022 and who leaves a lasting impact on the Greene Devil community. “Dr. Shepard brings a calm and steady leadership style that inspires growth, encourages collaboration, and keeps student success at the center of every decision,” said Mrs. Martin. “Her experience, instructional insight, and genuine care for the Greeneville community make her an excellent choice to lead Greeneville High School into the future.”
