The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015.   It provided good news for our nation’s schools.  This bipartisan measure reauthorized the fifty-year-old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the nation’s national education law and represents a longstanding commitment to equal opportunity for all students.

The purpose of Title I, Part A is to help local educational agencies (LEAs) improve teaching and learning in high-poverty schools and help children failing or most at risk of failing to meet challenging state academic standards.

This purpose is accomplished by such efforts as follows:

  • providing an enriched and accelerated educational program;

  • promoting schoolwide reform through schoolwide programs or through additional services that increase the amount and quality of instructional time;

  • significantly upgrading the quality of instruction by providing staff in participating schools with substantial opportunities for professional development; and

  • affording parents meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children at home and at school.

Title I Schools

 Six of our six schools in Greeneville City qualify to be Title I schools.

These schools Are:

  • Eastview Elementary

  • Highland Elementary

  • Hal Henard Elementary

  • Tusculum View Elementary

  • Greeneville Middle School

  • Greeneville High School

 Title I administers and supports programs that improve the academic achievement of disadvantaged students.  Title II Helps to prepare, train and recruit high-quality teachers and principals.  Title III helps to provide language instruction for limited English proficient students, ESL.  Title IV provides for student health, student support and academic enrichment.
